The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Hope Takes Action
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a lay, volunteer, Catholic non-profit organization that has been serving people in need around the world since 1833 and in the United States since 1845. The Society provides compassionate support regardless of race, origin, religion or gender. Vincentians visit the disadvantaged in their homes, establishing a charitable relationship to better address their needs whether financial, spiritual or emotional.
In 2012 The Society of St Vincent de Paul’s National Council, in collaboration with aha! Process, initiated a vision to “End Poverty Through Systemic Change”. In cooperation with that vision the SVdP Rockford Council developed ‘Hope Takes Action’, incorporating ‘Bridges Out of Poverty’ education for the community and ‘Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’ by World‘ workshops for those suffering poverty.
